In this blog, I would like to teach you how to make your own box.
It’s actually not all that hard -and I’ve been making boxes and bags for many, many years now.
The beauty of making your own box, is that as long as you have a sheet of cardstock and pretty paper-you have a box waiting!!
What you need to make your own box
So, what do you need to make this box?
- A piece of cardstock cut to 7½” x 7½” -score at 2″ on all four sides
- A piece of pretty paper cut to 6″ x 6″ -score at 1¼” on all four sides
- Ribbon (optional)
- A design of sorts for the top (optional)
- A tag (optional)
- Tissue paper (recommended to fill the box)
- Treats for inside the box (non negotiable!)
For this treat box -which is going to be a thankyou gift for my friend hosting us this coming weekend, I decided to feature the stunning paper from the Fresh as a Daisy suite.
I know I’ve been spamming you a lot with this suite-but you know when you’re head over heels in love, and you can’t stop gushing???????
Anyway, back to the assembly of this box.
It will probably be the best idea to watch this video where I explain exactly how to score, cut and assemble all the parts.
When I made the sample, I decided to score the box using my scoring blade on my paper trimmer.
Bad mistake!!
If you’re scoring using your paper trimmer -score only once and go very gently.
Otherwise you’ll land up doing what I did, and tear the score lines -not a great idea.
I combined a few die sets to make the flowers -I used the Cheerful Daisies dies AND the Paper Florist dies.
If you look carefully, you will see a small piece of Wild Wheat as the base -I used the Basic Borders die to create a border for some interest.
Other than these ideas -you can decorate your own box any way you like!
I’m going to teach this project later this year -so check out my calendar for a class date.
And if you like this project, be sure to subscribe to my newsletter for weekly inspiration!
Happy crafting!
