easy masking technique

This easy masking technique is a fun way to create a fun plaid background.

I will walk you through step by step how I made this card.

The idea is to give it a try and create your own fun colour scheme.

Card requirements for your Easy Masking Technique Card

  • Card base – I used Thick Basic White. Score ½ on the short end and cut ½ on the long end
  • DSP – length of your cardbase and 5cm wide
  • Basic white cardstock for the masking technique ( I used ½ card front size and trimmed it down afterwards) plus scraps
  • Glitter Paper ( I used 2024-2026 In Colour Glimmer 12’x12′)
  • Wild Wheat cardstock scraps (leaf and HI)
  • Ribbon
  • Metallic Enamel Effects ( I used Gold)
  • Masking Paper
  • Inks – I used Pool Party, Lemon Lime Twist, Daffodil Delight & Wild Wheat), Versamark
  • Gold Embossing Powder
  • Embossing Folder (I used the Quatrefoil folder)
  • Masking Paper -two strips long enough to fit across the widest diagonal of the cardstock
  • Blending brushes
  • Die cuts (I used Thoughtful Wishes)

How to create your card

  • Emboss your DSP using design of your choice
  • Adhere to the left hand side of your cardbase
  • Place your two masking paper strips across your white cardstock piece -they must run parallel next to each other
  • Choose your first colour and blend in the space between the two pieces of masking paper
  • Slowly remove the masking papers and place somewhere else on the card
  • Choose your second colour and blend in the gap
  • Continue doing this, using all the colours you chose
  • Trim down this paper to suit the size you want it to be
  • I then used an old pair of scissors to rough up the edges
  • Now taking your scrap of basic white -lightly blend pool party onto it
  • Die cut a leaf from it
  • Die cut a leaf from the glimmer paper and a leaf plus HI from wild wheat
  • You can run all three on your cut/emboss machine at the same time
  • Take your pool party leaf and apply versamark here/there on the leaf edges
  • Apply gold embossing powder and set with the heat tool
  • Adhere your leaves and the HI in place using liquid glue, and dimensionals
  • Place a bow in place using a glue dot
  • Finally add three small dots of the metallic effects(optional) -you can always add some gems instead.
  • Apply this layer with dimensionals
